Distress Centre’s Storytelling Initiative

At Distress Centre, we know how powerful stories can be. Sharing stories helps us reach Distress Centre’s mission, by inspiring others to take action, like reaching out for help, becoming a volunteer, making a donation, or advocating for the work of Distress Centre.

In an effort to share more stories, we want to hear from you about your experience as a volunteer or staff at Distress Centre.

We believe that every person at Distress Centre has a story to tell and we have developed this storytelling initiative to identify and gather these amazing stories. We want to hear from any Distress Centre volunteer or staff who wants to share their story.

Here are a few stories featuring DC volunteers and staff to give you an idea of the end result:

Interested? Here’s how to get involved:

  1. If you would like to have an in-person or phone interview with a member of our storytelling committee, please fill out this form and a member of our storytelling committee will get in touch with you promptly to set up an interview.
  2. If you would prefer to type up your experience, please complete one of the following forms:
    1. Form for contact centre volunteers and staff
    2. Form for other volunteers and staff
  3. If you would like to nominate another person to share their story, please fill out this form and we will get in touch to see if they’re interested.

  • News story on our website (like the examples above)
  • Social media
  • E-newsletter
  • Funding applications
  • 50th Anniversary Celebrations in 2020
  • In our annual Report to the Community

We will let you know how we want to share your story and get your permission before sharing it.[/vc_column_text][/edgtf_accordion_tab][edgtf_accordion_tab title=”In what format will my story be shared?”][vc_column_text]For the most part, we will develop and share text-based stories. But if you indicate interest, we may contact you to develop a video.[/vc_column_text][/edgtf_accordion_tab][edgtf_accordion_tab title=”Can I see the final version of my story before it is shared publicly?”][vc_column_text]Yes, we will ask for final approval from you before the story is shared publicly.[/vc_column_text][/edgtf_accordion_tab][edgtf_accordion_tab title=”What questions will be asked?”][vc_column_text]Check out the online form for either contact centre volunteers/staff or other volunteers/staff to see what questions we are asking. We want to hear about your experience at Distress Centre: Why did you want to get involved? How has your experience here been? Has this experience influenced your life outside of DC?[/vc_column_text][/edgtf_accordion_tab][edgtf_accordion_tab title=”Can I share my story anonymously?”][vc_column_text]Yes. Although it is our preference that stories include a name and photograph, we respect your choice if you wish to remain anonymous.[/vc_column_text][/edgtf_accordion_tab][edgtf_accordion_tab title=”What happens if I share confidential information?”][vc_column_text]As the storytelling committee is made up of DC staff and volunteers who have signed the confidentiality agreement, it is okay to share details of a chat or call and the committee will ensure that all confidential information has been removed/edited before the stories are shared publicly.[/vc_column_text][/edgtf_accordion_tab][edgtf_accordion_tab title=”What is the storytelling committee? Can I join it?”][vc_column_text]The storytelling committee is a group of Distress Centre staff and volunteers who meet monthly to discuss and plan DC storytelling initiatives. Anyone can join the committee! Please email lindsayd@stagingdc.podmarketinginc.com for more information.[/vc_column_text][/edgtf_accordion_tab][/edgtf_accordion][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]If you have any other questions, please email Lindsay Douglas, Communications Specialist, at lindsayd@stagingdc.podmarketinginc.com and she’ll be happy to answer them.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
